Deaf Services Coordinator
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides comprehensive civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities. In compliance with ADA, the ODRC provides interpreting services for deaf inmates that use American Sign Language. Interpreting services are used for medical appointments, classroom instruction, meetings with institutional staff, parole board hearings, and other occasions when an inmate needs an interpreter to adequately communicate or receive information. Services are also provided as needed for offenders who have been released from the institution but remain on Adult Parole Authority supervision. Currently, the majority of the deaf population is housed at the North Central Correctional Complex (NCCI). In Fiscal Year 2012 ODRC provided approximately 20 inmates with interpreting services at the NCCI.
